“Melagoy” or “Melibug?”
“Pinoy Big Brother Double Up” Big Champ Melai Cantiveros is “Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2” runner-up Bugoy Drilon’s prospect to be his love tandem if given a chance to venture into acting.
Bugoy half-wished, “Puwede naman siguro kaming gumawa ng love comedy dalawa,” while showing me their image together in his iPhone, a gift from a The Filipino Channel subscriber in Japan. This happened at the launch of his newly released self-titled album from Star Records at Proud Mary in Tomas Morato Ave.
Although his ultimate crush is Anne Curtis but he finds Melai as “cute, mabait at magaan kausap.” If time permits, this will give Bugoy a chance to taste the joy of having a lover as he never yet experienced to have a girlfriend until now. “Since birth po hindi pa ako naka-experience magkaroon ng minamahal sa buhay, kaya virgin pa po ako.”
When asked what will be his love tandem’s with Melai, Bugoy was clueless. Another writer suggested “Melibug.” He agreed but quickly added, “Ang pangit naman noon!” So I suggested “Melagoy” in a snap, joining together their name Melai and Bugoy like Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson’s Kimerald. Bugoy flashed a smile and agreed, “Oo, maganda nga!” Ever conscious, he added, “Pero wala naman akong balak agawin si Melai kay Jason. Magagalit ang fans nila.”
Not to be outdone, somebody else suggested, “Buglie,” for Bugoy and Liezel, Melai’s other term of endearment. For their sex meanings, Bugoy could only release his nervousness with laughter.
Bugoy’s brand-new CD is his second album produced by renowned composer Vehnee Saturno. The songs in the CD are packed out with OPM love songs that will surely bring back the ‘80s and ‘90s memories. They include “Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin,” originally by Rodel Naval; “Dahil Tanging Ikaw,” originally by Jaya; the carrier single “Hindi Na Bale”; “Ikaw ang Mamahalin,” “Pagkat Mahal Kita,” “Sanay Ibigin Mo,” all original songs by Vehnee; and the bonus track “Paano Na Kaya.”
The album’s carrier single, “Hindi Na Bale,” a cover of Jessa Zarahoza’s hit song is now enjoying good airplay in various radio stations nationwide and used as a sub-love theme song in a prime time series “Tanging Yaman.” I heard it in a cab’s sound system last Saturday based on a listener’s request. It looks like the single is hitting it big with its huge emotional appeal and Bugoy’s extraordinary remake.
“Maganda kasi yung lyrics niya kaya nararamdaman ko yung pagkakakanta ko nung kantang yun. I mean, hindi ko masasabing nakaka-relate ako kasi hindi pa naman po ako nai-inlove kaya masasabi ko lang na nagagandahan lang po talaga ako sa lyrics and tono,” he said.
All tracks have a minus one in the CD.
To promote his new album, Bugoy will be in Cavite as part of 101.9 FM Radio event on March 27, SM Marilao on April 11 and Bagaberde on May 1.
