To rate or not to rate

Lessons have been learned after television networks experienced some setbacks with the way their shows failed to sustain the interest of viewers.

With the poor performance ratings-wise of Claudine Barretto’s drama anthology series, it is deemed that viewers are now looking for new faces and that should one copy a format, one should make sure that it isn’t so obvious, or make it better.

One such case was Sarah Geronimo’s ‘Idol’ which didn’t create much excitement.

The dismal fate of the comedy series, “M3” starring Aga Muhlach and Ai Ai de las Alas shows the dangers of odd pairings that do not produce chemistry on screen.

From the unsatisfactory ratings of the reality dance search “Danz Showdown” starring the SexBomb Dancers and Mark Herras, it is learned that one should not bank on talents who have already outlived their popularity or substitute other talents to create an illusion of stiff competition for a show that is highly identified with a talent’s personality like “Pilipinas Win na Win” replacing “Wowowee.”

However, the lessons can be viewed as hard and fast rules in the television ratings game. Or can they just be charged to experience inasmuch as there is really no accounting for the taste of the television viewers? Just asking…
