Nadine ready for bigger breaks

Some stars shine like a burst of flame that burns out in split seconds. There are those who heat up slowly but keep their light for long.

Seven years after the original "Starstruck" edition sent her off into the showbiz world, Nadine Samonte remains as one the popular names among the Kapuso roster of talents. Each year she blossoms all the more into a bankable actress, even gaining a reputation as a convincing villainess, though she is mild-mannered in real life.

"I used to dream getting kontrabida roles," said the half-German beauty currently busy portraying the character of Shirley Garcia in "Endless Love." She describes her latest role as angry and too-forward, the exact opposite of the real Nadine. "Very challenging at mahirap sa simula ‘yung role. Pero mas nae-enjoy ko na siya ngayon because tinutulungan ako nila Direk (Mac Alejandre and Andoy Ranay) in my portrayal."

Looking at how this GMA Artist Center talent has been improving as an actress, there is no doubt she is primed for bigger things. She’s the type who conquers one goal at a time. And now that she has proven herself to be an effective antagonist, she eyes next the action role, much like Angelina Jolie in her recent action-packed movie "Salt."

As with any good actress, no role is too little for this ex-"Starstruck Avenger." Besides it is in acting that she gets to express her deepest emotions. "Lahat ng role na binibigay sa akin big roles for me. As long as may work ako, ok ‘yun sa akin. Nae-express ko kasi sa acting lahat ng kinikimkim ko, kung meron man," she pointed out.

Nadine’s "Endless Love" character has only strengthened her career path towards stardom. It helps that she is close to lead star Marian Rivera whom she has worked with several times and values as a sister. She has always been very close to people she gets to work with. Case in point, she has maintained close ties with Jennylyn Mercado and Kristine Reyes – two of her batchmates in the first "Starstruck."
